September Massacre- Clergyman (M. Gempp)
I am being captured in this horrid prison against my will by these citizens, the smell of death everywhere. Who knows when I'll be killed? It has been so bloody, watching other nobles and clergymen being slaughter and thinking that you're next. The 3rd estate is strong in numbers, with weapons to kill us instantly, and if I even try to escape, I'll be killed instantly. The streets are full of blood, and everyday I see dead bodies passing my cell. I try and be quiet so I can save my life. Being in a higher estate than these murderers and being held against my will is horrid. I refuse to be treated like this, I am a clergyman for a reason; to rule this 3rd estate and make sure they don't do any wrong doing, this massacre being one of them. They should just continue in their lives, paying the taxes, harvesting food, giving us clothing, and letting us higher estates have better lives. And as I'm watching these bloody bodies be dragged out of their cells and out to the wagons outside to be thrown away somewhere. I'm afraid I'll be next, and I'm praying that I'll live through this disaster in France.

ReplyDeleteBefore the Revolution started, thousands of people in the third estate were dying of starvation, yet you didn't do anything. You watched it happen. You watched the people of the third estate suffer and beg for food. You watched us have no say in the government. You watched us being pushed around and being treated unfairly. You let it happen. And now, you are upset because people are being killed. You call them "innocent" but in reality, they are nothing of the sorts. They are people who have treated us unfairly in the past, and didn't even bother to care. All we are trying to do is to create a better country. That cannot happen when ninety-seven percent of the population is left suffering. I believe that it is better for one to die than for the whole country to live in misery.

ReplyDeleteHere we go again. More people complaining about the conditions at the moment. Well if the citizens were so unhappy why did they make things worse? Why don't you fight for your freedom. I mean everyone else seems to be doing it. I'm not saying I agree with how they are treating you but I mean, whose side are you on anyways? This is what happens when people rebel. Chaos. Absolute chaos.
